To quote Henri Matisse the famous artist,”Drawing is like making an expressive gesture with the advantage of permanence”
Andrew, who is mildly autistic and has speech impediment, uses his drawings as a means of communication throughout his childhood and adolescence years.
He started painting 4 years ago and is still taking lessons from his art teacher. He is adept at both watercolours and black and white. Considered an illustrator because of his ability to reproduce small details onto large pieces of art paper, Andrew has an almost photographic memory.
In November 2007, Andrew took part in the 1st International Art Expo Malaysia 2007 held at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre and sold at total of 11 paintings.
His art piece, titled “Barracuda” was auctioned for RM3.100.00 at the Autism Awareness Month “Awakening, Aspiring, Attaining" Art Exhibition at Westin Hotel in April 2008.
In his spare time, Andrew also enjoys making models of airplanes, guns and tanks using recycled products like coffee stirrers, toothpicks and ice cream sticks. He loves animals and gardening.
He holds a regular job at a centre for young persons with special needs, where his gift of creativity has enabled him to be an asset in the Budding Trees Project – a greeting cards project with hope of providing employment and purpose for persons with special needs.
